About The Service

Welcome to the Cal State XR Sandbox

Sponsored by Cal State Innovate, Fresno State/Hub of Digital Transformation and Innovation is selected to host a streamlined, extended reality experience powered by Mozilla Hubs. Cal State XR Sandbox offers CSU educators, students, and professional developers and designers to create custom virtual spaces to socialize, project showcases, and attend instructional seminars!

Past Successes:
Cal State Tech XR Expo 2021

Hall

The large Exhibit Hall space hosted networking activities, featured event sponsors, and served as a portal to the other XR cafes and showrooms that were part of the event. This space was intended to approximate an exhibit hall at a typical conference.

Cafe – Innovation

The Innovation Cafe was a custom space that approximated a poster session, featuring minigrant-winning projects, infographics, and a provocative installation that explored the history of innovation. It also served as a gathering space for colleagues.

The Game Room

The game room was an informal gathering space where attendees could participate in a campus scavenger hunt, participate in a race, and hang out by the fire and chat.

Testimonials

“The Hubs platform created an important platform for our students to make connections and form a sense of community during Covid that would otherwise not have been possible in the virtual learning environment. This space helped our freshmen to develop their identity as scholars and their connection to our campus, which supports student retention and success. As we move forward with more in-person instruction in the coming semesters, Hubs will remain an important learning space for our students that continues to provide additional opportunities for them to connect, learn and grow.”

Dr. Alam Hasson

Fresno State Vice Provost and SATO

“The VR environment that the students built was simply amazing! I had no idea what to expect when I entered and I was blown away by how engaging and interactive the space was, even for a complete VR novice.”

Kendra Ard

Sr. Director – Infrastructure, Support & Communications Services

“I was blown away at all the detail the students put into creating this virtual environment!”
